History Of St. John’s Church

In 2003/4 after the closure of the RC Church of St Patrick in the town centre, the PCC were able to transfer and erect a large wood/glass screen from St Patrick`s into St John’s – in order to formally create a separate community area  (meeting  space/ kitchen / toilets)  at the west end of the church building.  The Font was moved in front of the chancel screen on the south side.
After serving as Vicar of the Parish for five years, Fr Graeme Drewery left for the Parish of Brotton in East Cleveland in 2005. In September of the same year, Fr Stephen Cooper was appointed Priest in Charge. On 1st January 2009, it was formally agreed that the Parishes of St John the Evangelist and St Columba be held in Plurality, and Fr Cooper was  appointed Vicar.
